BraMos CM successful test in India as an opportunity for Russian AF

Successful first test launch of supersonic missile BrahMos-A from Su-30 MKI Aircraft

According to the report of the Ministry of Defense of India and Indo-Russian Joint Venture BrahMos Aerоspace, on 22.11.2017 Indian Air Forces has successfully launched supersonic missile BrahMos-A from Su-30 MKI Aircraft.
It was the first real-life test launch of supersonic cruise missile BrahMos-A, designed by BrahMos Aerоspace Ltd. Fighter aircraft took off from Indian state aircraft corporation Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) airport of in Nasik. Successful launch was made at the surface target in the Bengal Bay.

Launch weight of BrahMos-A, developed for IAF, is 2.5 ton and it is a lite version of shipborne and ground-based BrahMos. BrahMos-A is designed to engage surface and ground-based targets. Official stated range of the missile is about 290 kms.

It should be noted, that successful results of test lead to usage of BrahMos missile in sea, ground and air versions.

JSC «Concern «Granit-Electron» as a designer of on-board control systems of BrahMos missile has confirmed the versatility of its hardware solutions, implemented in that system.

The test also resulted the integration of the aircraft with on-board control systems as well as the capability of correct software has been proved.

Success of the live tests in the Republic of India gives opportunity for the Russian Aero-space Forces to take into account the possible application of such types of supersonic cruise missiles without any significant improvement for their aircrafts, providing in that way the weapons versatility. As if the main advantage of these types of missiles is high velocity, the variety of different tactic capability solutions and the ways of applications, capable of being launched from multiple platforms based on land, sea, sub-sea and air.
